When October came , I sat down to think about a blog and said, Wait it is almost the end of the year.” So many things happened this year in the Social Media world. It has been a rollercoaster for all the platforms.
Hard to believe what was done this year in only 10 months. In fact there were so many changes on the platforms this year. Every day, (even the weekends), I was waking up in the morning and right away checking my phone for updates on the apps.
Usually we get an algorithm change once a year and maybe a few upgrades a year. But between 2015 and 2017, it has been Crazy. Whether it was Instagram taking from SnapChat, Facebook taking from YouTube, LinkedIn taking from Facebook, Twitter taking from Facebook, or Pinterest taking from Instagram, it was a crazy year. All in all there were too many new features and updates to count. (Note to self, 2018, write down every update and new feature for the year!)
It really has been quite a ride in 2017. Social Media took so many twists and turns. Each platform trying to show up the other, but as I look back, Live Streaming and Video (in my opinion) has to be the winner of the year. Live Streaming started all over again as a mobile connection in 2015 and didn’t look back. Now we have the ability to do it in mobile and desktop, and multiple platforms. If fact with some new software available you can do it on multiple platforms at the same time. We can screen share, do two, 3 and even 4 people on a screen at the same time. Brands and small companies have the ability to truly connect with their customer base in new ways. Not just be an infomercial, but to educate, entertain and communicate with them. Platforms like Belive.tv, Zoom, LiveLeap and others have given us this ability. Live Streaming is not the future anymore. it is NOW!
So what could possibly take 2018 by storm in Social Media? Lots!!! I see Live Streaming getting BIGGER still, but adding more features to it and a touch Virtual Reality. Also Chatbots are becoming more important to business. I know, some people feel it is impersonal: “Hey Email Blasts can be thought of the same way!” Chatbots give businesses the opportunity to be available 24 hours a day now. Sequences can be set up to direct the consumer to the right answers or product to look at. ManyChat is a great system for this. But what I see becoming huge in 2018? Shhhhhhhhh, don’t let it out yet. – – – – – –

So instead of me being the only one to give opinions on what has been good and what to look for, I asked around to some of my colleagues and friends around the globe. They are from many different industries, but have their heart and soul into Social Media like I do. So let’s here what their thoughts are. Here are 17 more thoughts.

So there you have it. That’s a lot to take in, however there is so much going on in Social Media it is hard sometimes to keep up. I am asked all the time, “What is the hardest part of my job?” My answer will always be the same in these days of technology warfare. “Just keeping up with the changes, so I can help you out.” The trend of video is definitely there and those of you that might have been putting it off or saying you can’t do it? Find a way, it is here to stay and growing bigger everyday.
Just remember, the more you don’t get involved in using these techniques and tools, the further behind you fall from you competitor that will use them.
Please let us know what you thought was great in 2017 and also what you think 2018 will bring to the table. There are so many ideas out there at this time.
